Community Daily Mile

2022

Thank you to everyone who joined in on our Community Daily Mile! During the five weeks of Summer, it was lovely to see families and individuals out walking with us.

We walked over 30 miles over the course of eighteen days! Amazing effort again 🙂

Thank you to the Phoenix Cafe for providing healthy breakfast snacks after each walk.

2021

We were so pleased to bring back our Community Daily Mile for another Summer! A chance for members of our community to socialise safely and keep active.

In the five-week period, we have managed to walk a staggering 107,210 steps!
That’s approximately 57 miles!

This year we managed to complete community litter picks along the way to keep our area clean and tidy. The children even went hunting for Pokemon’s using the ‘Pokemon go!’ app. Fun had by all. Our local PCSO Kirsty even joined us some days and it was great to see so many in the community get involved.

A massive thank you to the Phoneix Cafe who put on healthy refreshments after our walk… we certainly needed them after we had completed our daily mile.

Check out some of the highlights over the 5 week period.

We hope to see the community daily mile return in 2022 🙂

2020

Research has shown 48% of brits have put on weight during lockdown🤰– that’s nearly half of the population.
In partnership with Townhill Community School, we’ve put together a ‘daily mile’ programme so all members of our community have the chance to get active this summer.

The Daily Mile will run from Monday 27th July – Friday 28th August

Every weekday we will leave the Phoenix Centre at 10am to walk a mile.
The route will be changed daily and we have plans to keep the kids engaged along the way.
Everyone who completes the mile will be rewarded with free healthy refreshments after.

Healthy refreshments were always waiting for the community after their walk.

Each week we had a ‘Walker of the week’ – this award was given to the person who had the biggest smile along various routes. We even had a visit from Superman!

Sienna – walker of the week.
Kayden Robinson

A massive thank you SuperHero Patrol for making a surprise visit for the kids. They loved meeting you along the daily mile and we appreciate you taking your time to make a difference to the children in our community.

Come rain or shine, the community showed up to walk a mile regardless of the weather.

Daily Mile quote of the week from Oli Robinson aged 4 ‘What do you like about the walk Oli?’“I don’t like it… my mother makes me come but I do like the grapes” 🍇😂

A massive well done to Kayden Robinson who was ‘Walker of the week’ on week 3

We had another visitor join us on the Daily Mile… Captain America! The kids loved it!

Hello. My name is Drew Bowles iam 11 years old. I love to dance and sing I was so happy that I could use my dance exercise and stretches for the Daily Mile today. I really enjoyed designing the walk thanks everyone for coming along and doing my exercises.

Well done to Alexis Morse for winning our walker of the week award for always walking with the biggest smile 😀 and as you can see a beautiful smile it is

“Hi my name Alexis Morse and I am 11years old. I want to thank everyone for participating in my exercise I also want to thank the local people project for giving me the opportunity to design the exercise for walk a mile. Thank you”

On the last day of Townhill Summer Club, we held a sports day and awarded everyone with certificates with how many steps they had completed each time they joined the ‘Daily Mile’

The children had a surprise in store for organiser Laura on the last walk. They surprised her with lovely gifts and flowers to thank her for leading the walk each day throughout the summer holidays.

“Come rain or shine we have always had a fabulous turnout and can’t thank you all enough. Together we walked over 2,753,400 steps!” says Laura.

It’s certainly been great to see the community connect and get active each day and we hope to bring the daily mile back next year.
